Lovely to see you sketching again Tessa, I do like your loose style! Lovely sketches Gillian and Bari. Mine are a couple of sketches from another little trip on the River Nene. It was a bit grey and overcast so I had a go with wax crayons on black cartridge paper across the fields where we moored. The following day a bit brighter so a watercolour sketch of the view from the back of the boat. The balsam is pretty but an invasive introduction which is taking over along this stretch of the river.
I like the bird of prey Paul, I’m not good on identifying them, do you know what is was?
It was a sparrow hawk Katy , we have one in the garden quite often , the females a a bit bigger and regularly take a wood pigeon. What surprises me is there is nothing but the odd feather left after they have finished eating unlike next doors cat who leaves most of the pigeon he takes .
I did wonder, I’ve seen them swoop in to our magnolia and just miss a couple of times, they are so fast but the sparrows more so!
Katy, your views from the boat are both lovely. I walked with my daughter recently along the riverbank near her home and the Himalayan balsam is taking over there also. Quite pretty but apparently kills everything around it! We looked it up as we weren’t sure what it was. Dixie we get an occasional sparrow hawk here in our garden, but have never seen it take anything. I do like birds of prey and we see a lot of red kites floating around looking for food, great sight.
We have a lot of red kite here Tessa the biggest flock I have seem had about thirty plus birds it was quite awesome. Bit of figure practice for me today , I like painting figure but not portraits  a bit shaky on some of the lines still.
Red kites are just coming back here to this bit of Wales they were decimated by game keepers.  I know over towards Brecon they are almost like sparrows.  We get all excited when we see them. Just spent an hour in the sun painting to Mozart  and waving to neighbours. My neighbours rewilded garden is still going strong it’s changed from pinks, reds and blues to lots of yellow.   I feel a “ proper”  painting coming on. Like your Cello player  Paul.
Lovely flower garden Sylvia,, sounds like you have a perfect subject next to you. And Dixie , you have got the position of your cellist just right, the concentration and the bend over her instrument. This is my daughters puppy Cecil having a snooze.
Your sketches are nice by the river Katy. Paul your sketch brought back memories of my sister playing the cello in her younger years, really good sketch. Wonderful array of flowers Sylvia. Tessa the puppy is s cute and it's great to see you back. I've been looking at the shapes of old glasses, here is my quick sketch.
Great variety of subjects today!  I really must get some figure practice. It’s another subject I avoid but I know practice will improve them! But not today here is an old boat on the shore. Charcoal again !
Gillian, I particularly like your charcoal sketches. The cello player is very good Paul, a great pose. Lovely wild flowers garden, how lucky to have that next door Sylvia. Love the snoozing puppy Tessa, great looking character. Good practice with the glass Denise, not the easiest of subjects. Mine is a little red jug in oil pastel, a birthday card for a friend I think.
Lots of nice sketching and variety of subjects 👌 my walk today is the Whitegate way with an excellent lunch at the Plough Inn.
