I had to google Zorn, as have no idea what it is, but conclude that Zorn is too lacking in colour for me to use it! I had a parish council zoom meeting last night, thrilling as usual... and sketched three of the attendees:
Helen , your three sketches are excellent. They sum up the delights of parish council meetings, zoom or otherwise! I’ve missed a few days and not going to scroll back because I’ll lose this. We can see to the back of our house an extension being built and the last few days they are completing the new roof, so I took the opportunity to sketch the workmen before they’re done.
Wonderful sketches Helen.   Where is the Health & safety Tessa? Helmets?  Do they really have their tea up there or do they strip off to the waist exposing their waxed bodies and drink cans of cola (like the adverts)? Zorn doesn’t have to be so pale Denise.  It usually has a lot more yellow ochre in it and a touch of red.  You can substitute Ultramarine for the black.
Smashing sketches Helen and Tessa. Linda, you did make me laugh regarding the work men. Yes, I will have a mess around with the Zorn palette over the next few weeks and try and get the tones right. It's the first time I've used it. I'll try the ultramarine. Thanks..
Linda, I haven’t seen any refreshments going up! Certainly no hard hats but a definite ‘builders bum’ which one was unable to cover up while balancing on the roof! Obviously I looked the other way...🤨🤭 they seem to be having a day off today. Denise I’ve tried the Zorn palette in the past and it’s a good exercise, surprising what you can mix from such a limited selection. Also it does take you away from your usual colours and sticking with them.
A friend asked if I could paint a narrow boat for them. I said, well I'll give it a try. I thought I better try and sketch on first, Here it is. I am going to spend the rest of the day sketching narrow boats to get the feel for them. There are some at the docks, I am thinking of going down to sketch them sometime this week. I think this will be a good idea.
An excellent idea to go and see the different angles and shape of the barges clime ships look similar but all are different. That a very good sketch Denise good base for a painting .
Thanks Paul, I've done a few but I won't bombard you all with them. I will probably do about ten, then go and sketch some live. Then decide which I like, then probably paint something totally different. I kind of like this with some social aspects in the foreground.
Very good, Denise. I did a watercolour of one and promptly got told it had too many windows for a narrow boat - consigned to the folder. Thought I had better add at least one sketch this month, as I'm trying to get back into practice with portraits again. One of my granddaughters...
Another TV sketch of the day.
Thanks Ron and a lovely portrait of your granddaughter. Simon, that's one of the Dr Who's isn't it. Is it. Nice sketch anyway.

Yep.  I'm a big Doctor Who fan, so it seemed like a nice source of images to sketch.  I'm very keen to be able to draw figures - something I'd never previously managed, which is why I'm focusing on practicing drawing the actors' faces.
