Thanks Paul. I will have a look at that Robert. I think my first mistake was using black paper, not having any focus and having one eye on the dog and the other on the paper. Must have looked like Marty Feldman. I will have a serious attempt when my mind is more settled with the pooch.
I’m joining in on the ‘when you can’ section if that’s ok! Yesterday I went for a first time visit to Compton Verney gallery and grounds to see the Sky Arts portrait exhibition, a selection of portraits from the tv show over the last quite a few years. It’s a lovely exhibition if anyones interested and is near enough, and on til june 5th. If you have watched the series it’s good to see some familiar paintings which you will remember. Also it’s a lovely well lit gallery. I sat and drew a sketch after. PS Denise, just read about your dog. Hope you are both recovering. X

I recognise this from this year's Landscape Artist Competition.  I have been watching the 2018 replay of Portrait Artist.  Excellent stuff.  I hope the three finalists were there.
Just seen your news about your dog, Denise. What an awful time, hope he’s ok. I sometimes feel more upset about animals than humans - is that awful? It’s about them being so dependent on us.
Bit of a long haul on the m6 to the gallery for me Tessa, nice little bridge sketch...hope you and the dog are on the mend Denise. I'm working on a epic sketch book project for my daughter, she is head of art and design in a school in Scotland..
I know what you mean about sick animals Marjorie.  I can’t cope with that at all.  Denise, you have my sympathies over your dog and also trying to get the portrait right.  I think the nose is too long, which is where it went wrong,( consequently more like Margaret Thatcher.)    The position of the features is the most important thing.  Wrinkles are secondary and need less emphasis.  Hope this helps.
Recognise the bridge Tessa, I’m a bit to far from Compton Verdey here in Orkney which is a pity as I would love to see the exhibition! Denise sorry to hear that your dog has had surgery but hope he’s on the road to recovery.

Yes I guessed it would be a bit of a trek for some of you! Incidentally it’s the first exhibition I’ve been to for over two years, not surprisingly. Yes Gudrun there were paintings from each of  the 2018 finalists. It was lovely to get out and see a good exhibition. I plan to tackle London by train sometime, that’s next on my list hopefully.
Tessa we have an art gallery here in Stromness it’s the Pier Arts Centre. I was at an exhibition there  recently. Sometimes they do go over my head !!
Sounds good Gillian. It’s so nice to see art up close and personal!
