Oh you addict you ,Jen....lol.  I do agree the forum is not as easy to use as it was .
Hi, reading this thread has spurred me into joining the conversation. I’ve posted a kind of into on the newbie intro section. Forums need people posting to survive. So, here goes, i’ll endeavour to contribute rather than “lurk” in the background reading.
Hi Adrian...pleased you are not a “lurker “.
I’ve lurked with the best of ‘em but let’s see what it’s like out of the shadows. I doubt it’s scary, artists appear to be terribly friendly.
There is the odd exception.
I’m sure they mean well. I’ve worked out artists are as individual as their work, and some are just as “colourful”.

Adrian Johnson on 12/12/2019 21:38:27 Not sure where that leaves me - I work to a limited palette.  On a more serious note I do find the forum is a tad dour at times with little sense of humour.  I belong to two art groups: one where it all taken so seriously and one where there is continual banter. It is the second group where the best work is done and which is the most popular.
Interesting concept ....I adore colour .but saying that I always admire limited palettes .
One thing I found on retirement was that I really missed the banter, that I took for granted. It’s great when the  a post prompts bantering , and it’s this that keeps the forum going along with the serious comments. KEEP IT UP FOLKS PLEASE.
Banter is certainly a big plus. I also found that I’ve missed that since retiring as you don’t get the interaction with a group of people any more. I joined a couple of art groups but the idle chitchat was still missing.
I'm not one for talking, but I do like to listen to people talking, so popping in here and reading your comments is much the same. But I do have a chirp now and again :)
Banter does require a sense of humour which for many doesn't extend to banter and tongue-in-cheek comments. I love the term Pensioners Art (which I qouted elsewhere) along with Brown Furniture and - wait for it - OxFam Art.  These terms could describe my more traditional watercolours and they make me smile everytime I hear/use them but some get quite hot under the collar and defensive. I love humour and get bored by descriptions of the properties of a particular colour or type of paint and I'm not a lover of photorealism so I rarely comment  on these sort of streams. The point is there is room for serious discussion and humour to attract everyone and to maintain a lively forum.
