Oh go on then Sylvia. Personally I think we should just give 1st to Heather and take the pressure off the rest of us! I’ve got two oils on the go at the moment and class tomorrow, so may not start til next week.  🤨
Absolutely not because there are so many other artists on this site who do portraits head and shoulders above anything I can do (excuse the pun).  The real challenge for me is a time limit and the new medium I'm using.    I'm just finishing off my husband (ha ha) so also wouldn't start till next week.  So what will be the rules and timeline Sylvia?
It was tongue in cheek Heather! Trying to take the pressure off.😀 I’ve been thinking I should try a selfie (painted version) for a while, so as usual this site, or at least Sylvia, has kicked me into it. Sometimes I lack motivation these days, not sure why. It’ll be fun. Won’t it?! I think 4 hours sounds ok, doesn’t leave too much time for fiddling. X
The real challenge would be with a mirror - or two mirrors. That way we are doing it as close as we can to painting from " life". From a photo is much easier because it's already 2 D. I'm going to challenge myself with the mirrors but there may be specs involved.
I agree it should be a mirror job Marjorie. I generally look awful in photos so there aren’t many of me around!
Ok great .  Love the head and shoulders Heather....plus you other comedians. Some of the fellas have given their commitment. Hopefully   we can get everyone on the forum to have a go.   Let’s say two weeks from to day which makes it Thursday 6 th March.  . Keep this thread alive by comments on our progress, otherwise as we all know they sink into oblivion. Whoooeeee.  Off we go. 😊.

I’m a a disadvantage here, you all have something nice to look at, I look like Shrek to start with, still if you start with a disaster it can only look like on. Am I allowed to make my ears smaller and not stick out as much, please.
Depends what you mean by nice to look at Paul.....wrinkles....
Yes, Paul, wrinkles in abundance! No cheating with a mirror, unless.......I paint myself with my specs off! Now there's a thought.😊
Oooo not sure I want to join in this one lol, the last self portrait I did I looked a right miserable old sod!! and that was with a mirror. Paul I think you have the easy challenge, no hair and you look like Shrek, all you need do is paint an egg and put some features and ears on!! well i'll give it a go BUT THIS IS NOT A CHALLENGE i'm looking forward to!!
You could really do with a new thread for this one.   Anyway - I don't think I've the time to try a 'proper' self portrait, and you wouldn't want an improper one, so I thought I'd give you a quick sketch I used on Facebook, to get rid of a hat I'd bought that was too big for me (worked, too).
For your delectation. This is a pic my granddaughter then age 10 years did of me .  It was a competition here on POL . I painted her , she painted  me.  To our amazement we won a prize...  but when she did this she used a black  felt tip and drew a million wrinkles .I ORDERED  her to paint them out...lol..   incidentally she’s now doing a fine art degree and I would be honoured if she painted me now sans black felt tip.
