Glorious indeed Alan. And you have another purchaser here if a book did eventuate.
I’m in the queue also! After all the wonderful work above I hardly dare show this but this is an oil sketch on tinted drawing paper of a very shaggy llama , one of a pair I came across on a country walk last week. It looked in dire need of a haircut!
Tessa I’m so pleased you dared to show that little beauty of a sketch it’s what this thread is all about not the finished in a frame stuff. What is interesting is the sketch ,scribble , doodle or plan spilt the ink and made this lovely shape with it , by posting the basic stuff it I believe encourages people who feel they can’t sketch to have a go . Posting superb beautifully done work is great to see but if your a beginner or not confident it can make you feel inadequate or I can never do that so Comecon don’t hide the didn’t quite work out as there is more learning in there than the masterpieces.
Well said Dixie! Thank you.
Having said I never sketch, I did a while ago do this small watercolour sketch which I thought I might use later in a painting or linocut.  I liked the leaf shapes and the negative spaces they created.

Jenny that’s a lovely little sketch and a good example of the sort of thing in taking about. There is always a discussion as to what is a sketch or is it a drawing, we all have slightly different perspectives on that , post it anyway and I’m sure it will be well received and don’t worry if it’s child like as you may know if you don’t take up and art training of dray regularly out brain does revert to drawing like seven year old . That’s one of the things I remember from when I was working alongside a internationally known art therapist and a psychiatrist leading a art group for people who had enduring mental health issues, one of the best things I ever did in my working life. No it wasn’t analysing what was painted or looking at the odd colour etc it was using art as a therapy and a means of relaxation etc.
Some great sketching, I'm in the middle of decorating but I'm hoping to get some sketching done this week.
I totally agree with you Paul. Although I am embarrassed about posting my sketchbook stuff, I hope it gives the less confident sketchers out there purpose. Forget about how good or bad you think you are….it doesn’t matter. You can make your sketchbooks into lovely works of art in themselves by adding the found bits and bobs that you’ve sketched. I love your Llama Tessa !

Fiona you have no need to be embarrassed about posting your sketch books , it’s what we are about as artists most of the time popping thoughts , ideas, and things that catch our eye into a basic image.  I do get a bit cross or more irritated really when someone starts a conversation with it’s only a drawing or a sketch it’s a but tatty etc etc etc, I feel like saying oh for goodness sakes it’s one of the most important parts of out artistic development. I have just bought three books about sketching I will add photos one is by Alwyn Crawshaw it about his sketch books some beautiful drawings in there along with some scribbled ideas etc , if it’s good enough for him the  then it’s more than good enough for me.
Interesting pages Fiona! Alwyn is an excellent author and painter…  I actually prefer his oils to his watercolours, but I think his drawings are really good.
I have to say, sketch a day mk 2 is outstanding and an inspiration. Tessa, your llama is a good depiction, you have the essence of your subject. Jenny in your hands the leaves would make a beautiful linocut. I like the colours you have used. Looking at the work you have posted, Fiona, opens up a whole new world of journaling, for me. I collect many feathers when in the fields. When I found a dead magpie I removed two tail feathers the flashes of colours were too much to resist. I put the bird to rest, and hoped that would abate my plunder.
I’m in the queue also! After all the wonderful work above I hardly dare show this but this is an oil sketch on tinted drawing paper of a very shaggy llama , one of a pair I came across on a country walk last week. It looked in dire need of a haircut!
