Carol, I looked after a few cheviots and Hebrideans once upon a time, also had a small flock of Boreray sheep myself. I recognise the Cheviot “look”, all sweetness and light until you have a bucket of feed in your hand! 😂
I had to look up the Boreray sheep, Fiona. They look an ancient breed, not a breed I'd be overly keen to shear. Ho!Ho! they certainly are all sweetness and light, and don't really want to bother with you until the bucket of goodies comes out . . . and then look out.
They are on the rare breed list Carole, from one of the islands around St. Kilda. I hand sheared them, but they could be slippery critters! Great characters but you could tell they had a “wild” side, not quite domesticated……if you know what I mean.
Yes, I know exactly what you mean Fiona, and the horns don't help, by hand or machine.
Here in Orkney there’s a unique rare breed of sheep that graze on the seaweed so live on the shore there’s a wall around the island  to keep them out rather than in . They are North Ronaldsay sheep! Anyway no sheep’s sketches I’m afraid but just some quick sketches
Lovely sketches, Gillian. I've searched for the North Ronaldsay, they have adapted to their environment, as many breeds have. The lambs look very pretty. I'm going to find a good one to download and paint it.
It must be a fabulous place to live in Gillian, I've never heard of seaweed eating sheep. I did this sketch of a stuffed bird as I was early for my class last night. t was in a glass box but I didn't get time to sketch the box as the other students had arrived.
