Had a look through Stanley Cursiter’s work - in addition to coast and seascapes he has done some lovely portraits, but his paintings I like most are of the rugged Orkney cliffs, this one in particular which is quite majestic - the birds wheeling around the cliffs adding life and movement.

Sorry, been a bit busy this morning! I discovered Stanley Cursiter when I first moved to Orkney, I was impressed with the variety of styles and subjects he excelled at. I love his seascapes and coastal scenes.  He captures the sheer size and majestic ness of the cliffs. But he can. also capture the beautiful light through the day. Perhaps my favourite is the one  Paul liked of Hoy  ( below) It’s a view I see most days .these are the highest cliffs in Britain and I reckon he captured that. I  love the Picture Boats in the Street, Stromness ( it is opposite my house and hasn’t changed much other than less boats.  The light is great and there’s a feeling of peacefulness. Orcadian life was laid back then and still is! Great seascape below ( can see now why I like doing them now! ) and Street scene Graham Place, Stromness.

Gillian, I have just been looking through his work, I really like how he pick up on the light on the buildings. His work is quite varied and his self portrait, I found. very interesting. The Window and Little Grey Town, I liked very much.
One of my favourite contemporary artists is one of our own.,, I first discovered him on here POL he used to post on the gallery .   Adabanji Alade .   He hasn't posted for some time but is often a judge on here.  You can still see his pics here if you look for his gallery. I first became fascinated with his sketched portraits ,freedom and energy.  Then I started seeing him on TV shows ,wow this guy is going places.  He regularly posts on Line…” it’s Chooseday “.  A nice person and fab pics. .
I will add him to the list Sylvia.
I have tried to load this several times today, it’s just amazing, the shine on the crockery is beautifully painted.  This artist is so  versatile, Gillian I can see why you like his work so much thank for pointing him out.

My daughter ( who is the collections officer at Stromness Museum) told me today that they have a very large Stanley Cursiter painting ‘Linklater and Greig’ on display
Some wonderful work on display here.
Indeed there is Lewis, it's nice to seek out the work of artists you're unfamiliar with and who have been a source of inspiration to fellow artists on POL. I admire many artists ranging from 'old masters' to people on this site, but one who I have 'discovered' only recently is Jeremy Lipking, a figurative artist who paints in a realistic style but his use of colour and light  is just sublime.
Thanks Russell I will add him to the list of artists , keep your eye open for when he comes up .
I love the work of Cornish artist Neil Pinkett.  He works mostly with a painting knife and uses a very limited pallet.  I first came across him at a gallery in Cornwall many years ago where I nearly bought one of his early works for very little money…. Can’t afford him now!
Wow, Russell, that is some painting. I also like Cornish. I would like to add, Jose Royo to the list Paul.
