Corner of the Studio, this is an early work and I really like this one. Painted Screen. This is another early work of his.
I like those early works you’ve posted, Denise. They look great abstracts……and not scary.
Well I have found one of his paintings that I actually quite like , I’m not a big abstract fan but I like the simplicity of this one .Goes to show if you look hard enough you will find something that you like. Sorry I found two the bull is reportedly one  of his last, what a way to finish .

Paul, they’re different, I also like the bull.  (The top one looks like fabric, and on looking again at his work found that it was one of the rug designs he did when he was focusing on interiors.  Apparently some of them later became paintings.) I also came across this one (a watercolour) which I quite like.

Now you mention it the top one does look like a rug. Thst a very nice one Jenny and the colours are great. I think the bull look simple but it not easy to achieve that without a lot of skill and being able to see the end result, it’s brilliant glad I persevered and discovered it.
JOHN NASH (1893 -1977) was a British artist best known for his landscapes, although he also produced wood engravings and illustrations, especially of botanical subjects.  He had considered a career in botany but was was encouraged to become a painter by his older brother Paul, an artist who studied at the Slade School.  John had no formal art training.  Both brothers were commissioned as war artists during WWI.   Cornfield with Stooks Cornfield Winter Afternoon Sea Poppy Autumn

Such a change from Francis Bacon.  These are paintings I can relate to. Some of them (prints) I remember from my school days hanging on the school hall walls I think I missed most of what was going on looking at them.  The WW1 paintings capture the moment with dark drama,  then the lovely British landscapes and incredible botanical drawing/ print.  Love each and every one of them.  Great choice Jenny thank you .
Bloody fat fingers....grrrr.

A wonderful artist who’s work I’m always admired - his war paintings are powerful images but I also like his style of landscape painting!
Thanks for those Alan .
What a superb artist, his war theme paintings are   excellent and quite moving. I like his style of landscape painting and have seen it lots of time without realising who’s it was . I’m really taken by his wood engravings mostly done  black and white, so effective. You can see the botanical influence in his work.
