Another artist I'm not familiar with so this really is a great way of increasing one's knowledge. Jose Royo is obviously very talented but a little too fussy for my liking, although I think his sketches are great.
A very interesting artist who obviously loves to paint the female figure. I prefer his more simple paintings that are less busy but demonstrate the effect of light on the figure.
These are beautiful Christine and I like the first painting and how the colour of the roses are reflected on the garment and to areas of the face and neck. There just seems to be a harmony of colours within his portraits, it's almost a holistic approach, that's what I feel.
OK, time to be quite honest.  (And you just know that means trouble....).  These are very accomplished, very clever paintings: and I hate them - I think them repulsively glutinous, and fixated on a soft-porn erotic vision of the female form (if I'm going to have pornography, I'd rather it were the real thing). I know that many of you won't appreciate this, or begin to understand it, and it's no criticism of you if you don't.  But I seriously and deeply dislike these paintings, which I think exploitative and voyeuristic - imagine nubile young men so arrayed, and you might see what I mean. But san-fairy-ann if you don't....
So yer not keen on them Robert I take it .
Have a look at Daniel Castan via Google Images. Leaning to the abstract, I really like some of his work.   I also watched an episode of The Art Show. If I were a swearing man, I could have a field day at the amount of sheer drivel passing for modern art.

Robert Jones, NAPA on 14/03/2022 20:49:56 I might be quite wrong in this assumption Robert, but my bet is a fair percentage of folk who buy these works are actually women.
I did comment on the voluptuousness of the women/ girls in the paintings which does carry messages…interesting observation Robert.  It’s so interesting how stuff is interpreted by each of us. I find the freedom and expressiveness of the brush work quite joyous.   Loves your honesty Robert.

Interesting indeed! I don’t see anything porno in these paintings but there’s something I dislike about  the more colourful and flowery ones and I can’t quite put my finger on it. I do agree Royo is a very skilful artist and I do appreciate the more subtle examples picked out by Dixie. I think maybe his style is just too fussy for my taste. We’re all different thankfully!  I hadn’t heard of Royo before so thanks again for the intro. Interesting to see but not my cup of tea.
I have to concur with the views of some of my fellow artists here, accomplished I don’t doubt, but far too busy, with both his figures and backgrounds - I don’t see them as in any way erotic however, I just don’t like this overly romanticised style of painting. I’d not heard of this artist before this thread, and frankly, that’s no bad thing!
This was the painting that appeared in the gallery that was based on one of Royo's painting, it's what made me look at the artists work. It is very close to the original and the original painting, the classical figure work, is of top quality. Of course, I understand  it's not everyone's cup of tea but I'm so glad that, in this County, we have independent thinkers and that we can voice our opinions, good and bad and that they are respected.
A lovely example Denise . I agree with you wholeheartedly, I do t ant to get into politics but we can and do say things that in many other places we would be fearful of event the slightest mention. A you use all liking different artworks etc , well how boring it would be and so mundane if we all had the same tastes .  Like in a family we all differ here at time , but still enjoy each other’s views and respect choices . This is the sort of debate that the thread was set up for , healthy discussions and the bonus of learning from each other . Keep it going and be honest and respectful , Robert was  both .
