Well said both.  Having looked again at Royo’s work, I found these which I do quite like.- very different subject matter and more subtle palette. It pays to look further!

These are good Tessa, I also like his landscape work.
I agree with Tessa looking deeper does allow a lot more of the artists work to be seen . I discovered  some really good landscapes and sketches that gave me a slightly different view, I do like quite a lot of his what I call uncluttered work , but then it’s all in ones taste and option.
His work IS accomplished.   I just react rather (perhaps too) strongly against some of it.  I didn't like Millais's 'Bubbles', either ..... but at least that was advertising soap.   Figure painting doesn't have to be lushly romanticized - from Michaelangelo to Euan Uglow - or Lucien Freud, Jenny Savile (spelling might be out), El Greco, Goya - there are less, well, syrupy ways of doing it.  That'll be in part at least because the painters used living models: I'm not all sure, since his work is so idealized, that Royo did.  But there we go - I shan't be buying it, but then, in all honesty, I wasn't going to, anyway....
I see what you mean Robert, but it has a certain grace to it.  But I am so used to male views of femininity as seen on the goggle box and film.  If I shouted in horror every time I saw male semi-sexual fantasy on the screen, I would have no voice left. On possibly another subject, I have asked Reuben, Robert Lenkeiwicz’s son if he would mind if we discussed his father’s work on our forum and now wait for a reply.

Talking Lucien Freud, about a million years ago as I was going into an exhibition of his paintings in Tate Liverpool , a scandalised woman was coming out . Not quite waving the smelling salts…. “ it’s all Porn…it’s Sooooo dreadful”   . I must admit I do find his stuff a bit full on.   Yes Millais Bubbles is a bit sticky fingers down throat.   All to sell Pears soap .

Interesting what some find offensive, isn't it, really.....?   I can't pretend that I would actively welcome a Lucien Freud to the walls of my Long Gallery, in my imaginary manor house.... though that would depend on what painting it was; I might find some of his work a bit over-faithful to the slightly ghastly hues that flesh can assume.  His small study of the Queen, I remember, did make her look very much as though she were chewing a wasp; and his portraits of the .... shall we say large? .... benefits officer (or rather, full figure studies, taking the word "full" in every sense of the term) took realism rather a long way.  And as someone said, humans can't stand too much reality.  By then, of course, he'd gone a long way beyond the need to flatter his subjects: there's a painting of an army officer by Freud, which would leave you thinking the officer was hopelessly drunk on a regular basis, and perhaps he was....  I don't find Freud offensive though, because his subjects were interestingly painted - though perhaps he had a taste for the grotesque; all depends on what one finds grotesque; it's often necessary to cast preconceived opinions aside, as Sylvia's scandalized woman obviously didn't, when looking at paintings... you could say the same of Royo's figures in my case, of course; is what I dislike their somewhat saccharine nature, can  I not see the quality of the brushwork.... I think I don't think highly enough of the brushwork, or much else, to dispel my dislike, but these are deep waters........... and I think they've risen to the base of my (beautifully crafted) nose....
Hi all just a very quick note as I destined fir the big shopping spree today Hate it.  I contacted Dawn  re the copyright issue that seems to haunt this thread , as the a Editor she is happy with us to continue with the current format.  The important thing is acknowledging the artist and where possible naming the painting .  I have to say that I’m quite pleased that we can continue as I think a lot of us are gaining pleasure and knowledge from looking at the different artists. I ask those who feel strongly about any copyright issues to please start a new thread and not disrupt this one , with issues I consider resolved regarding it.
I don't intend to wax lyrical about Jeremy Lipking's work as I think his paintings speak for themselves. The paintings I will upload are by no means my favourites as there are far too many to choose from to be honest, but I think he's a great talent. 'Golden Woodland''A Mother's Blessing''Jacob at Sundown'
I really like this artist’s work and was interested to know a bit more about him - found an excellent article on his life and work on the website realismtoday.com (search realismtoday.com  lipking).
The colour and clarity is what I like here. Numbers 1, 3 and 4 in particular ( in vertical order). I’ll make some time to learn about him.
Very fine work.  I had a quick look at his website, it's full of terrific work.
