Ok Jenny , we will keep it for a future thread . If anyone has suggestions ( polite one’s please) for a special week please do let me know , you don’t have to lead the week just add to it if that’s what you want. Any ideas or thought just let me know and we can look at how it can be fitted into the list .

The trouble - or good thing? - about being a bit older is that one remembers so many painters from years gone by: and you think they left us but recently; you try to look them up but can't find them - because they predate the internet, weren't picked up by any search engines, and flourished decade upon decade earlier than one remembers them. This I think is what happened to Mr Birch - he's fallen into memory's black hole (and that's what worries me about the internet in general: rely on it more than paper records, and you lose a huge chunk of history if no one has digitized it).
On which front: I remember a watercolourist, whom I've mentioned before, named Wilfred Ball - it's the devil's own job to find him online, but he wrote a book on his practice, wish I could remember who published it (and as so often, I regret the fact that I sold my own copy). If you could find him - you'll note I said "you"! - he'd be very worthy of inclusion in these threads, so far as I can remember his work: he was a bit of a king of masking fluid, which I loathe, so the book wasn't of much practical use to me. I'll see if I can find him, though - might be Wilfred or Wilfrid, so I'll have a crack at both, and then artfully dodge Paul when he tries to get me to write an intro - journalists, as I was, don't like writing for no money!
