Welcome to our thirteenth week of the thread , hope you are enjoying the variety of artist that we are looking at each week. Two very famous artists this week the first is Vincent Van Gough followed by Kandinsky. Sylvia will be introducing Van Gough and Michael will introduce Kandinsky on Wednesday have a good week and enjoy the artwork. Over to the lovely Sylvia .
Posted 15 Minutes Ago Vincent Van Gogh. Week 12 ...I think, of Paul's project...thanks Paul.   Born: 30 March 1853, Zundert, Netherlands Died: 29 July 1890, Auvers-sur-Oise, France Periods: Post-ImpressionismPointillismNeo-Impressionism A name we all know and paintings that we  are all familiar with . He seems to have always been in my life on cards ,on biscuit boxes ,sung about  films made about . I also think his work has influenced me more than any other artist.  The flowing lines ,the bold brush work the brilliant colours.  The observation a man of the people he lived amongst. A sad life.  Many years ago I was babysitting my first granddaughter in New York .  I took her in her push chair to MOMA  she was ten months old.  We wandered the galleries a bit over whelmed.  Then I suddenly found  Starry starry night.  I just sat and looked....she just slept .

Great choices Sylvia, where do you start, there’s so many wonderful images. I love his cafe scenes… And this iconic image…look at the feeling and passion in those thick brush strokes!

On3 of my favourite flowers  and possibly my favourite The Potato Eaters, .people who he knew.  He was a man of his people.  Glad you like my choice Alan.

Some excellent choices Sylvia and Alan, I’ve never really looked at his work that closely before but I will certainly spend some time having a good look .
I would like to read more about him, in depth, when I get a chance. I like The Bedroom. This is somewhere I think his mind was free and happy, that's what I imagine anyway. I came across some of his drawings. My kind of thing, I'll probably sketch a few. Woman Sewing. This is another I really liked. Courtesan, after Eisan.
Sylvia has already posted my favourite, the irises.  Had a look at his work on Wikiart (which shows over 1900 artworks! -  mainly sketches of people). There were a few pencil/ink drawings which I hadn’t seen before.  These are two which I especially like.

Just love his sketch’s here are a few that I liked unfortunately not very good photos.
How nice to see things I haven't seen before.  I especially like the lady sewing.  I think that bedroom Denise is his room in the Lunatic Asylum...he was a disturbed soul. AND yes, he did cut off his ear...
I and if I double post again it might be my fingers for the chop.

Yes Sylvia, it's where he could feel most at home within himself, I think, away from all distractions. I think, within these walls, dangled the ropes of escapism. That's where a unique, form of art is born, that's why they are masters. They are not like you or I, they have evolved, kind off. I obviously don't know much about art but he interests me very much. I think he expressed himself and his emotions very well in his paintings. He is an interesting character.
