Society of Painters in Water-Mixable Oils

Society of Painters in Water-Mixable Oils

In February of 2020 I launched the Society of Painters in Water-Mixable Oils due to the astounding number of misconceptions surrounding the medium.

On February 25th 2020 I launched the Society of Painters in Water-Mixable Oils as I felt there was a need for a platform for both artists who had discovered this gloriously liberating medium and to blow away the myths growing up about the medium and to welcome those just discovering the joys of working with it. I wanted it set up primarily as an educational platform and to give people information about companies, their products and as an information sharing society with opportunities to meet both in person and through the magic of the ether like minded artists whether completely new to WMOs or had been using them since their launch in 1998.

The Society runs an annual, 'open' painting competition with 6 categories for both professional and amateur artists, that is to say that there are two categories in each of the subject areas for instance Landscape Painting professional category and a separate category for amateur artists. the headings are :- Landscapes; Seascapes; Floral; Still Life; Figurative and Portrait; and Wildlife. We are happy to accept new members, there is no criteria required for membership as it is primarily set up as an educational and social platform, the only requirement is that members are working in or taking up painting with water-mixable oils.

Membership costs £25 per annum, there is a bi-monthly newsletter with lots of tips, tricks, techniques, history and much more also there is a blog page. The Society also has a 'members only' facebook page to where you can upload your work or just talk to other members. There is an amateur members gallery and galleries for our professional members where we can put links to your social media platforms and of course your websites.
