Pintar Rapido

Pintar Rapido

On 19th July I took part in the London Pintar Rapido event. During this event artists had to go out and paint somewhere in the Borough of Kensington and Chelsea during the day, bring the painting back to Chelsea Old Town Hall, then frame the painting to include in the exhibition the next day. Having decided to paint in Brompton Cemetery, one of my favoured painting spots, I went up a few weeks previously to choose a couple of likely places to paint. My first choice was a grave shrouded by trees near the entrance. On the day my 8 month old daughter came with me. (Her dad is a Chef so works weekends hence she's with me). I chose to attempt a very small painting in watercolour which is the size and medium I am used to working with when outside. A small painting was also preferred because my daughter would get fed up eventually ! After getting our paper stamped at Chelsea Old Town Hall we set off for the cemetery. As I walked through the cemetery I spotted a few other people painting, with their pink rosettes visible (we were all given one to show that we were part of Pintar Rapido). We settled down in our spot to paint for a couple of hours. Reasonably happy with the painting we returned to the Old Town Hall around 2.15pm. I had brought a small frame with a ready made mount and simply had to put the painting in and tape up the back and hand it in. Keeping everything as simple and easy as possible was important with a baby in tow! The next day we returned to Chelsea Old Town Hall to see the exhibition. Absolutely packed with people at 3pm there were many red dots visible. There was a huge range of paintings on display in different media. I was thrilled to see that our painting had sold. Altogether the weekend had been a huge success. My little daughter had been extremely well behaved as we got on and off buses and painted our picture in the cemetery. I recommend this experience to anyone who paints from beginner to experienced artist and I am hoping to take part in next years Pintar Rapido.
