Louisa Saffioti

Biography

Having been brought up in a rural part of Somerset has influenced my work strongly and often my paintings are focused on the parks, the river and open spaces. I like the accessibility of these areas and try to re-create something of their tranquillity and beauty in my paintings. My favourite medium is watercolour, but I also use acrylics, pastels and most recently mixed media - watercolour and collage. I like watercolour because of its subtlety for my landscapes which I often paint directly on site. For my bird paintings I use extensive sketches and often combine pastel and watercolour because of the strength of colour and immediacy it lends to the subject. Born in 1971 I was brought up in Somerset, lived in London for a long time but now live in Salisbury, Wiltshire. I exhibit my work in exhibitions in and around Salisbury and in online galleries. As well as local exhibitions I have also exhibited at the Bath and West of England Show and the Chelsea Art Society open exhibition. I have had solo exhibitions of my work at Wimbledon Open studios as well as at St Ann's church, Kingston hill and the Cornerhouse, Tolworth. Some of my work has been published in The Leisure Painter magazine and SAA magazine. I have also recently been awarded a 'Highly Commended' for a small painting of Salisbury Cathedral that I entered in a Salisbury Group of Artists exhibition. I am also willing to accept commissions.
