Finding my focus

Finding my focus

Devon Ditties

I have been painting for many years now. I am a member of several art societies and have just relinquished my chairmanship of Devon Art Society after 4 fun years. I am looking forward to a bit more time to paint now - however - I did have a weak moment and said yes to organising Totnes Art Society's 2013 exhibition! Will I ever learn!! I am really enjoying a course at Harbour House, Kingsbridge with an amazing artist Anita Reynolds. It is really allowing me to focus on my 'way forward' so am busy creating a new body of work. Initially this was about Wheal Druid - an old copper mine in Devon but I am now extending my focus to cover some of the other tin and copper mines I have visited over the many visits to Cornwall and in Devon where I live now.

Hi Diana I love Kendal the first time I visited there I had this feeling home at last...trouble is that over in the West of England it rains so much...it's we Irish we sling it across at you...I lived on the Wirral Deeside and I loved it just between Chester and Birkenhead I google the village sometimes and it's still a village so maybe a visit someday...but we used to get very humid in late summer being between the two rivers...we had our first storm of winter today short and wild...I thought the roof would come off...the Swan River was coming over the Free-way with a storm surge...still we need the rain so won't complain every thing looks nice and fresh...I'm so glad I don't have to do the drive home from work anymore...during winter I could leave work at about 4.30 and be lucky to be home at 7.30...roads flooded...they havn't really geared up for rain here we still have power poles and a falling tree brought one down today so dangerous...there was a lightening strike on a power station and about 65,000 people lost power and some won't get it back on until tomorrow...we were alright though thank goodness...well Diana it's 2am so must off to bed will take a look at your gallery

I have a friend in Kendal; it's not that far from here. It's raining again pretty constant. In fact today I went to get my son from University and the journey back was horrific. We used to call it raining stair rods. Traffic was down to 40mph on the motorway because you just couldn't see- and they reckon we are in for a heatwave in summer. Summer? What's that? Two flower paintings are in my gallery with another to come when my camera batteries charge up but I don't like any of them. The flowers are ok but the backgrounds are awful. Thanks Max too; I was surprised to sell anything in this economic climate and thanks for your comments on my paintings; much appreciated. Nice to see some pleasantness on the site just now.

Hi Diana good to see you congratulations on selling a painting...our family in Kendal are complaining about the weather...but my Sister-in-Law runs a guest house and full to rafters so some must like the rain...good luck with your flower painting looking forward to seeing them
