1 Cup Rolled Oats 1 Cup Plain Flour 1 Cup Sugar 3/4 Cup Coconut 125g (4oz) Butter 2 Tablespoons Golden Syrup 1/2 Teaspoon Bicarbonate Soda 1 Tablespoon Boiling Water Combine oats, sifted flour, sugar and coconut Combine butter and golden syrup and stir over a gentle heat until melted Mix soda with boiling water and add to to melted butter mixture Stir into dry ingredients. Take Teaspoons of mixture and place on a lightly greased oven tray Allow room for spreading I think the history behind these biscuits goes back to the 1st World War...being made with what was available and sent to the Anzac Soldiers Cook in a slow oven for 20 minutes Loosen while warm Cool on trays I think the history behind these biscuits goes back to the 1st World War...being made with what was available and quite nutritious with the inclusion of oats...and sent to the Anzac Soldiers...that is Australian and New Zealand...on the funny side the magazine was once a weekly one but now monthly...It is now known as The Australian Woman's Weekly Monthly...hope this inclusion does not offend but causes a giggle as it did us when the change was made...it is known for good recipies and the cook books are soon sold out...this recipe came from the first cook book I ever bought in 1972 it has been so well used that the cover fell off and it is now held together by a plastic sleeve...great easy Christmas Fare especially the boiled pudding which I use to make regularly in October but somehow don't have the time any more...or the energy
