Help!

My name is rebecca i am 36yrs old and i work as a nanny part time. The rest of the time i care for my mum who had a stroke.Last year i decided to take up painting as a way of taking my mind off things after remembering that i quite enjoyed art at school.I don't have any experience,no knowledge of art materials, brushes, composition etc i could go on.I paint straight upon the canvas quickly and in thick strokes of colour. Most things i paint end up with blue, yellow, red and white even if the subjects are not this colour because i love them so.Is this ok or should i sometimes paint things as they actually are?I like thick strokes that show how i moved around the canvas but don't know if this makes it look messy?but i enjoy it,it feels like dancing .I would appreciate any feedback as i know very little. Its just me,my brush and the spare room.
