A pictorial alphabet of favourite places around England – H for Higher Poynton (3)
A pictorial alphabet of favourite places I've sketched and painted around England.
Our weekly Tuesday morning sessions expose us, of course, to the challenges of all outdoor painters, the 3 W’s – wet, wind, and wildlife. This view can be seen from Higher Poynton with your back turned to Lyme Park, looking towards Alderley Edge. As you can tell from the spots in the sky wash, it was painted on a showery morning and is satisfying as a good result under the conditions, and a memory of time happily spent, but not one for exhibition! Luckily the other two challenges were absent, the wind was light, the cows and sheep that graze the fields were hunkered down under the trees, rather than investigating the intruders, and it was too cool and early in the year for the flying, biting creatures to be about.
