Tony Hogan

Biography

Recognised for his stunning paintings and for his relaxed and easy way of teaching others, Tony has been artistically driven from his early childhood in Saltaire,Yorkshire UK. The second youngest of a large family he was motivated and encouraged by his mother and despite the fact that his father had passed away when Tony was only seven years old, leaving a widow with twelve children to bring up, he was still allowed to pursue his artistic leaning. At the very young age of just 15 years Tony started formal art education at Bradford College of Art. On leaving the college he first spent six months as a carpet fitter before securing a position as a display and exhibition designer. Some two years later he moved into the advertising industry. For the next ten years he worked for several leading international companies producing the advertisements, brand images and literature for many leading international brands eventually becoming the advertising/marketing manager of Wrangler Jeans U.K. At this time with a young son Tony and his wife made the decision to return to the fine art sector, painting, exhibiting and tutoring to survive. Yorkshire Television have used his paintings in the "Heartbeat" series,commissioning him to paint a set of watercolours especially for this program. Other television work including a series demonstrating the benefits and advantages of how to create fine art with Pan Pastels has followed. As well as his love of painting, Tony was a tutor for the Open College of the Arts, a professional associate and demonstrator of the Society of All Artists, a demonstrator for the Art Foundation. He still demonstrates with Daniel Smith watercolours, Pan Pastels, Maimeri watercolours,the Cumberland Pencil Company, Chroma Atelier Acrylics, Rosemary Brushes, St Cuthbert’s Mill paper manufacturers, & Hahnemuhle. He regularly travels the length and breadth of the country giving workshops and demonstrations at exhibitions for leading manufacturers, distributors, importers of art materials and for art groups and societies. His depth of knowledge of techniques and materials in most mediums including Acrylics, Oils, Watercolours, Pastels and all pencil products provide him with the skills to help and guide others along their artistic paths. For the last twenty years he and his wife have also run art holiday courses where participants interested in developing there own artistic side under the guidance and tutelage of Tony spend a few days. Throughout his long career as an artist he has had many one man shows and exhibited in several national and local open exhibitions.
