Mrs S. Bower-Bird
The Satin Bowerbird is found on the east coast of Australia. The neutral warm brown-green of this bird with soft touches of yellow-green contributes to its attractiveness. Unlike the female, the male bowerbird is shiny blue-black and collects anything that it can find that is blue in colour to use in the construction of its nest. It is less frequently seen. In this painting I decided to take a more designy than overly-literal approach. What is missed in the reproduction are some of the subtle rhythmic pencil lines underlying the colour.
