Love your drawing skills and colour palettes.

Nice balance between the pen work and watercolour.

Like this very much, Alan

Absolutely wonderful Alan! Love your darks and loose ink work....a delightful pen and wash. How did you find the paper? I like how it gives you a natural broken line when you apply the ink line work. Keeps it from tightening the subject up too much.

Thank you for posting about this experiment. I used the paper recommended by Fiona Phipps, Jackson Watercolour available from them as a 16" x 12" block slightly cheaper than Bockingford. Interesting surface rather like a linen Woven in which the warp threads are much thicker than the weft. This is clearly seen on the photograph. Took the ink/matchstick sketching easily and no obvious problems with the wash. I don't know much about the sizing. Only one side. The reverse is smooth like a hot pressed. The block has twelve sheets and the packaging is unbranded in a plain green. Jury still out on this one.

This is another take on the previous image but using Jackson's rough watercolour paper with ink and matchstick. I think this paper suits the technique although has a very decided vertical weave
