Hard Aground by Wib Dawson
I remember a small fishing village along a very rugged coastline where an old wooden fishing vessel had found its final resting place – either by its former owner or from being cast ashore in a gale. Either way it definitely had seen better days and, sadly, was looking rather forlorn. Boats and ships, although supposedly inanimate objects, seem to me to possess a life-spark and personality that is difficult to describe but, nevertheless, real. I think I would rather see a boat reverently disposed of than to see it rotting for years on a shoreline.
