Iconic Palette
A number of years ago while a guest in a small village in eastern Romania I had the opportunity to explore the local Orthodox Church tucked away in a corner of the village. The church was some five centuries old and along one side of the nave was a small alcove that I think was used as a small chapel for special services. On the wall of this chapel was an icon of Jesus that over the years, for whatever reason, had been covered with many different coats of paint. The paint had subsequently chipped and peeled but the image of the icon was still for the most part intact and showing through. The memory of that image was my starting point for this painting.
