Great expressive work Jim. I would not have put that central mast in but otherwise I love the spontaneity

Thanks Seth and Karen. Karen, take the mast away and the attention drifts left to the boats. They're moored and not moving. The mast pull the attention back to centre. Too much space without it. That was my focus.

my thoughts are that the "central" mast completes the block that includes the boats. Without it I find that the painting is too weighted on the left side

I'm always quite happy to get different views and opinions on how artists see things. It all helps to form perspectives. Please keep commenting.

I love the water effects you've captured so well, yes, the masts stop the eye wandering out the painting, Just a thought, and I'm no judge, maybe lighten the distant land a shade? Birds really work well, pulling the eye back in to make you look again. Smashing colours, too
