Simply brilliant, beautiful eyes, lost for words reaally! Valerie, I am a beginner with pastels and have just posted my first picture (Hampton Court flowers). May I ask, do you fix your paintings?

Yes I do. You need a good quality fixative and plenty of it. Have you tried velour paper? It gives great results. I used it for this painting and the "husky" Also the poodles and you can see the different effect it gives

Thanks Valerie, I used Daler Rowney Perfix Colourless fixative. Maybe i was a bit too heavy handed! I hear a lot about velour, I think it will be my next order. Thank you for your advice, much appreciated

Lovely portrait

I like velour too, but don't get these results with it! Mind you, I'm a total novice with pastel - this is a very soulful Spaniel, and a lovely image.
