Sophi and Lottie

The little girl is so beautifully painted and the lady has a beautiful, maternal expression. This would be so good if you could a do a bit more work on the lady’s mouth by reducing it and making the teeth less prominent. Hope you don’t mind my criticism but it seems a shame when the rest of the painting is so lovely.

Thank you Carole for your constructive comments that I readily take on board. I do not mind at all. I did struggle with Sophi’s (My eldest daughter) mouth. Because it was a watercolour sketch, I couldn’t rework it much more without damaging the paper. I was much happier with Lottie’s (My granddaughter) likeness and have really captured a moment.

That’s the trouble with watercolours. They don’t like being altered or messed about with. I wouldn’t dream of painting a portrait in watercolour as I just don’t have the skill but really admire those of you who can pull it off.
