Love your description of the technique, I've never tried it. 10 minutes or not, this is a super drawing.

Yes quick poses are brilliant for warming up and getting “your eye in “. Wall paper lining paper at about 2 quid a roll is great for this stuff. Nice drawing.

There's always something about work carried out quickly that gives the painting oomph , if you start fiddling and tidying it loses that spontaneous feel , this one is just right.

My preferred technique with charcoal, quick and good for working out the tones. Another good result.

Great sketch, I too like to use the technique you describe Thalia

Great work and technique on a not easy pose

It's so good to hear your encouragement and helpful observations and to hear others using this technique...for sure no fiddling produces results. A huge thank you Lewis, Sylvia, Dennis, Marjorie, Russel Derek and Gudrun, Sylvia I used to use wallpaper backing paper in UK...would have no clue where to buy it over here as the houses are stone and rarely use plaster or wallpaper! I use cheap Lidl drawing pads for the quick poses, and Khadi paper for the watercolour sketches.

I use that technique with charcoal it’s very effective I find. This is another super quick sketch Thalia.

Excellent work and lovely technique

Very effective technique. Confident and impressive result.

Thank you very much Fiona, Margaret, David and Diana, much appreciate your comments

This ten minute study in charcoal uses subtractive techniques, I cover the thin paper with a loose layer of chacoal and use a sharpened rubber to create the light areas and add more charcoal for the darks. I enjoy these really fast sketches where I cannot over think the drawing, I tend to measure only with my eye and work instinctively using room furniture for reference.
