There’s always something a bit “ stylised” about your paintings Tessa. It takes them away from being too realistic.

Thank you Marjorie. That’s what I’m aiming at, to get away from the photo-look. I’m not too happy with the sea on this one. Had it been Plein air I think or hope it would have been better, but it’s based on a scene on tv and then good old imagination.

Many thanks Stephen.

I agree with Marjorie and they are always good!

Thank you Heather.

Really good Tessa.

This is an interesting one…. It is a painting I would keep looking at, really excellent.

Having commented on your sketch, this has turned out well. It's very eye catching.

Sometimes, the essence of your first impression or idea in the sketch, gets lost somewhere in between the transference to painting. I think your transfer has gained much more Tessa. You have a lovely “flowing” style of painting and mark making that, like here in the foreground, it has presence.

Or Jurassic coast… what a super piece Tessa, great paint application!

Love your unique approach, which results in such unusual, interesting, paintings Tessa.

That’s a great image and style Tessa - nicely original.

Thanks so much Denise and paul. Much appreciated.

Many thanks Bobbie.

Fiona, thanks so much. You are right (usually are!) in that sometimes the plot gets lost in developing sketch to painting, glad you feel this has improved the image. I wasn’t sure, but we are always our worst critics aren’t we!

Thank you Alan. You are the master painter here, so I do appreciate your encouraging comments.

Many thanks Carole and Michael , glad you like it. 👍🏻

Bold and beautiful!

14x10” oil on canvas board. Developed from a sketch I posted recently. Thanks to Bobbie and Fiona especially for encouraging me to slap a painted version together! Often I think about it but don’t do.

About the Artist
Tessa Gwynne

I have returned to painting over the last few years having relocated from Cardiff to the Cotswolds in 2009 and joined the Guiting Power Art Group. Although I did a year's Foundation Course at art college after leaving school, I hadn’t painted much in the interim, except for a few attempts here and…
