Thanks for the kind comment Ruth, I tried for that calm effect and think that I achieved it. The painting hangs at the head of the stairs so I see it several times a day.

This pastel painting was done at a workshop of the Ashby Guild of Artists. It is on Daler Ingres paper. I was interested to try a very classical type of work, which worked quite well in the end I feel.
