Hi Sylvia I can see how similar they are. I must admit I am always painting bottoms, not only people from behind but lots of animals to as they make such interesting compositions. I promise you have I haven't seen yours before. I just love the Caribbean People and the Colour. You might have seen an article on this similar scene that I wrote for the 'Paint Magazine' a few months back. I love the interaction in your painting.

Sorry have just got your second comment. I work for Carnival and travel a lot all over the world my particular photograph was taken in January on the Caribbean Island of Dominica. But I have lots of reference photographs similar to scene from many Caribbean Islands.

Yes, there are similarities but there are many diferences, two excellent pics. before I suffered the stroke last year I encoutered this sort of thing when I was freelance writing. It's not uncommon for editors to recieve many, similar stories at around the same time, ideas for articles seem to come in droves, writers writing about the same thing at the same time. I've written on this pic, because, although only marginal, and I do like the like the yellow light in the other pic, I prefer this one. Looking through Marilyn's portfolio, there is a definite style that woul lead to this sort of pic. best Mick

Full of life, vitality and colour, which on a grey day like today is a pleasure to behold :)

Sylvia, great to hear you have made it to the BBC programme and the SAA magazine. Keep up the good work.

Hello Sylvia, thanks for the great comments on my work, I really like this one gives a feeling of hustle and bustle of the market place.I especially love the colour in it. I am in Helfa Gelf-been painting for yrs,but stopped after having my son,re-started 2 years ago after the tragic loss of my sister.Very new to selling and exhibiting. Hope to see more of your work. Louise.

A lovely colourful painting Sylvia, one of my favourites in your portfolio.

Thanks for your comments Sylvia. I love your sketches and paintings of people, you are obviously a real artist and I admire the fluidity of your work. The nearest I can get is to some of your landscapes. I am trying to learn how to paint a bit more 'finely'. I think I can do the composition and colour bit reasonably well., but I am frustrated by the rest.!

Fantastic colours an lovely subject. This is scetched in situ? You must be quick to do so or the ladies had a great sit and natter... I love this style of using acrylics. I used somewhat this idea in my early painting time and thought I needed to graduate into looser painting. Finding your own style is not easy. Love your other paintings too

You have plenty of vibrant colours in your painting making it lively, and the wonen look busy and actively employed in what they do. I like this painting very much, well done!

It surely is a wonderful painting Sylvia! It caught my eye on the side of your page!

I painted this three / four years ago.. I took photographs and made sketches in situ. It was posted on "the one show" BBC 1 ,also in SAA magazine as part of their " Where in the world" It comes up on the internet if these site are looked at. The other one on this page is admittedly different but near enough my original concept be taken from my painting. I am not sure if I am flattered or a bit cross. This is my concept.

About the Artist

Sylvia Evans. I am mainly a self taught artist, though I did spend a year at Rochdale School of Art in the late 1950’s. I was then made to get a “Proper Job” by my father, so I spent the next few years in a nursing career. I married and had a family, just picking up a pencil to amuse my…
