HEDGEROW

HEDGEROW
Comments

It's a good 'un. Went out for a walk this evening, for my weekly fish and chips (so much for the diet...), and the cow parsley and hawthorn and dandelions and daisies made it look as though someone had been shaking a paint-pot over the hedgerow. And is that campion you've got there? My wild-flower recognition never was much good - but we've got that too. Fair cheers you up......

Thank you Robert. Yes they are campions. The hedgerows are a joy.

I also love cow parsley with its lovely dancing white frothy heads. I live right out in the country and the lanes are all bordered by it and our driveway is also graced with it's presence along it's 200yd length. No-one is allowed to cut it! Your painting beautifully captures the flower's ethereal nature and coupled with all the pretty colours of the wild flowers around it's feet makes a lovely light and pleasing work.

P.S. If you want to see amazing wild flowers bordering the lanes, then go right down to almost the tip of Cornwall. About this time of year the verges look more like abundant borders in a show garden than just incidental bits of greenery at the side of the road. I have never seen such a variety of plants, flowers and colours - simply breathtaking.

Thank you Thea. I appreciate your comments. Also info re Cornwall…it is so long since we were down there. I counted about forty different varietis of flowering plants in our lanes the other day. I did not include all in my pic I think it might have driven me mad. The council here are very eager to denude our lane and we have had a lot of protests going on. They see a wild flower and think "Off with its head" So I did this as my little protest.

Great piece like the dark green color and the way you've painted the cow parsley. Why are councils always so obsessed with cutting verges and grass, in places that don't need cut, they always seem to find money for that.

Absolutely beautiful Sylvia. Am catching up with my favourite artists (the email notifications no longer work for me which is a nuisance), and came upon this gem in your gallery.

HEDGEROW - Acrylic I adore cow parsley dancing in the hedgerows during the spring time. Last year the council razed all of it to the ground in April!!! There was a loud out cry, this year they have done a bit better and only just trimmed the hedgerows. Anyhow I thought Ihad better do this before they were all gone.
