At Ben Haddou, southern Morocco, I found some local artists who did wonderful simple Moroccan scenes painted on paper. They claimed the yellowish colour was actually Saffron! So I painted a scene a la Marocaine style, using saffron in water as the colour and fixing it using their system of rapidly moving the paper over a flame for a few minutes! The saffron was applied all over and is light in colour. The darker elements are with usual artists watercolour paint. The style is similar to local artworks. This is done on 300 gsm paper and is about half A3 in size
