A lovely painting Stephen , I’m sure the quality paper helps .

A really superb painting, Stephen! Paper quality definitely contributes to a panting,

This is lovely Stephen. Makes us think of warmer weather ahead.

Many thanks Paul and David. Both the Works and W&N papers are described at 140lb, not, cellulose papers but the W&N type seems to hold the paint much better!

Nice work Stephen. Yes after many years of buying cheap stuff, I think I have concluded that painting is hard enough without making it harder by using cheap materials.

Many thanks Carole and Bryan. I think you are quite right regarding paper quality. I did use Saunders Waterford blocks for some years, beautiful surface but the price kept riding.

This is a beauty Stephen, so delicately done.

Many thanks Heather.

You can see the difference Stephen, there is no substitute for quality. The colours are much richer with more depth. The wet in wet background is gorgeous.

A super painting and composition.

Lovely work Stephen. I particularly like the foliage in the foreground.

Many thanks Spencer. I was looking through some old work in my so called studio, I probably have thrown out the disasters, but many look fresher than my current work. I think it might be the better paper I used then.

Tidying up my ‘studio’, (o.k.a.) box room! I found an old unopened pad of Windsor and Newton cold pressed paper. Very nice to work on compared to my cheapo Works pad! More textured and the paint flowed nicely. I suppose you get what you pay for!

I am a self taught amateur painter, I mostly paint landscapes in watercolour but I 'dabble' in other mediums from time to time. I really enjoy my art, especially painting outdoors when the weather allows.
