Definitely helps the composition Stephen if you wanted a more marked contrasting think you could get away with going even darker with the tree. Of course it looks great as it is but as you will of observed I love strong contrast.

Many thanks Barry, I do find it difficult to get really deep darks in watercolour without the dreaded mud!

The foreground is super, brings the whole thing to life. Love it Stephen!

On reflection I thought my painting looked a bit dull (although fairly true to the photo). So I added the foreground tree and bush, added a little variety to the hillside and strengthened the colours on the river banks.
