Good sketch Stephen

Many thanks Heather, I actually prefer his little sketches to his more finished work.

A lovely piece, Stephen. Love your lively use of lines and marks. The tonal work is also very nicely done.

Well sketched, Stephen.

A terrific sketch Stephen love it.

Many thanks everyone for your much appreciated comments.

A proper drawing! Always good to see - so much suggested, so little need of extra detail. On the whole, I agree with you about Ray Campbell-Smith; I've seen a lot of his work, read his (excellent) books; and on the whole prefer his sketches to his finished work - he made a few good videos, too: a great teacher. Having said which - he did paint some gorgeous watercolours, when he wasn't trying to teach others how to paint: I think the teacher sometimes detracted from the creative artist - but this may well be nonsense! He painted a great deal, and I've only seen a fraction of his total output.

Many thanks Robert. I went in a gallery a number of years ago, which had some of his work on show. The owner was quite impressed when I recognised that he had some original RCS work on display. They looked even better ‘in the flesh’ as it were!

Many thanks Spencer.

I did this quick pen sketch from a little watercolour sketch by Ray Campbell Smith, in one of his old ‘how to’ books.

About the Artist
Stephen Slater

I am a self taught amateur painter, I mostly paint landscapes in watercolour but I 'dabble' in other mediums from time to time. I really enjoy my art, especially painting outdoors when the weather allows.
