The word " fool" generally has negative connotations, not in this painting. Here he represents the child present within us all. In his state of innocence he is curious and longs for knowledge. He is fearless and may look careless , he is inexperienced and lacks direction. He is also unaware of dangers, but as he travels with positive intent and pure heart, Nature forgives his clumsy arrogance and the Universe supports him in his journey.
