If someone said this was the preliminary sketch by Turner himself which he used as a reference for the big oil painting I'd believe them.

It’s spelt Temeraire! It’s a brave person who takes on Turner’s greatest masterpiece! I know I wouldn’t... The light he achieved in most of his work was by applying subsequent layers of glazing and scumbling - not an easy process but impossible to achieve without doing it that way.
