The red and he green challenge

This is beautiful Sharon, both colours are so vibrant on their own but mixed together they produce lovely tones of pink, green and grey as demonstrated in your painting!

Oh - you've done really well. I wish I had thought of doing flowers as I think I could have coped with that a bit better than doing a stomach churning version of St Paul's! This is a super painting in it's own right.

It's very beautiful Sharon. I was surprised at the depth of colour and different tones that can be achieved when mixing just the two shades. Did you find it easier to paint without any pre drawing. I prefer to paint this way myself. Pencil lines can be so inhibiting. This looks as though you had no problems, straight in with the paint brush and what a result!

Lovely - you've made the the two colours work so well together to totally suit this subject.

Thanks for all your comments, I thoroughly enjoyed trying this out. Louise, I must admit those paintings of my own I am most attached to are usually done without predrawing - but that being said, I also bin a lot of them! However, when they do work, they have something extra, especially in watercolour - lost edges and mingling colours in particular. The problem I have is that I don't predraw when making a sketch as preparation for something bigger, but have never dared doing a "proper" painting without pencil lines. So that's now the next challenge for me, in any case !

This is soooo delicate, Sharon. Beautiful, I wish I had done this!!!

I missed this - it's lovely Sharon.

Thanks Mia, Marjorie and Gudrun, your comments much appreciated.

This is super - love the subtle hues and the delicate rise and fall of the petals. And on a limited palette too! Thank you too for your comment on my painting.

Any ressemblance to an existing flower is pure coincidence. I just went straight in with the alizarine and viridian, to see what they did when they got together. Some lovely greys, and the viridian seems to be less strident when mixed with the crimson. An interesting experiment.
