We're having fish .... um; did I say? You're the fish..... I think this is a good reminder, apart from anything else, that you really don't need preliminary drawing - I've entirely given up on pencil and charcoal on paper or canvas: but do plan things out in a sketch-pad - do you do that, I wonder, or just steam straight in on a clean sheet of paper?

Beautifully painted with stunning colours in the feathers. The eye has a great predatory look about it. Lovely work, Sharon.

Thanks for the comments. I do just steam straight in on the bare paper, but usually start with a small shape such as the iris, or pupil of an eye, then work out from there. I find it much easier to see shapes from small to large.

I adore birds of prey, and seeing this one sitting so proudly on his handler's arm, just had to get him onto paper. Again without any preliminary drawing, paint, salt, clingfilm etc was thrown at the feathers. It was great fun to do, and I love using colours that are not seen in a photo, but in the mind's eye.
