Thanks for the encouraging comments. I think he was interested in my trying to lean into the enclosure to get a closer look at the new baby giraffe - it is very sweet, but painfully shy and skittish. Anyway, I thoroughally enjoyes painting him - again just paint, no drawing, and starting with the eye. He just flowed.
