This is a beautiful watercolour Seok, I love the composition, de delicate palette colours, everything is lovely

Lovely, as Petra states it's so delicate. The gang plank is a great way into the painting...you want to climb aboard!!

very well done!! j'adore cette aquarelle!

Just had a look at your gallery ------ MAGIC

This looks so peaceful. Life on the river (in Summer) perfect.

Two great additions to your gallery. This one is so calming to look at with it's gentle colourways and your delicate touch. Perfect. Thank you for your lovely comments on my Torridon in Autumn.

Very beautiful piece.... sensational colours and superb composition. This is quite impressive...

You have such a way with watercolour and a brilliant ability to make things seem 3D. The delicate colour of the hull of the Seafarer boat is just super. Great painting and a joy to view.

A beautiful serene painting.... new pictures every day ! ......you're very busy and they're always up to your high standard.

Thank you very much, everyone! Coming from such a wonderfully skilled group, I am really very flattered. Thea, I just bought John Pike's book on watercolors, which was recommended by Joe Hargreaves, and in it, John Pike states very categorically that "the illusion of the third dimension, depth, is gained only by thinking through value relationships." In other words, to bring out the 3D effect, we really need to work on our tonal values. It's something that my art teacher always emphasized since the day I started painting with him, but there are many artists who sniff at this approach as being old fashioned and dated. Well, I was gratified to see that even in John Pike's day, he was called a "square", but he defiantly says that "the ability to really see values is the single most important factor in watercolor painting." I try to keep this in mind when I work on my watercolors, and don't always succeed, but I'm now happy that when I produce "old fashioned" paintings, I am in illustrious company! Avril, I just went on an art book shopping spree recently and just devoured a couple over the past week, and was rather inspired, so I've been working overtime!

A lovely painting Seok, I love the colours and with all the reading you have been doing I look forward to seeing more, but keep true to yourself don't become a clone of anothers style because your style is wonderful.

Thank you, William, you really are so very kind and encouraging. I hear you, and don't intend to become anyone's clone, partly because I can't, since one's painting style is really like one's handwriting, and it's therefore quite hard to emulate. But for the most part, I won't become anyone's clone because I am too ornery and always want to do things my own way! I do enjoy poring through the good art books though, because I do pick up loads of very useful tips, and also the really good painters all affirm what I'd been taught all along - to be able to run as an artist, we all need to learn to walk first, which means honing good artistic skills and loads of diligence. Sometimes, I need to be reminded of that.

You know I love this subject. This is a super composition with so much character in those boats, well done!

Thank you very much, Lesley and Kirstie. Lesley, you really are THE leading authority on this subject, and I hope I will see the day when I can come close to what you accomplish. I feel very humbled that you like it.

A charming example of traditional watercolour—beautifully rendered.
