Wonderful work Seok. Is this gesso underneath, what medium? Have a good time!

You colours just sing together Seok! Everything in harmony with each other. Lovely work Seok! Have a good time away :)

I was searching for a naughty couple of humans initially. Smashing work Seok as always, the texture and the colours especially

Lovely piece beautifully painted Seok . And as ever a perfect gentleman take care .

Smashing piece Seok, look forward to seeing paintings of your travels.

This one definitely has the wow factor!, fabulous colour palette and composition. like Carole, I was curious about the texture, it works for me. No crocs about then Seok if you were on the spot painting it!

Stunning and I am so envious of the way you are able to travel and see all these amazing sights. I just love the colours and the textures scratched into the paint - so effective. Have a good trip!

I do love your paintings Soek and the interesting glimpses of the busy life you lead! Looking forward to more paintings from your forthcoming trip.

Lovely scene, beautiful painting, great use of texture., Seok. Hope you enjoy your travels (with paintbrush I hope)

Stunning work Seok! Have a great trip and don't forget your paints.

Beautiful painting Seok.

Love the textured effect here Seok.

Thanks very much, everyone! Carole and Alan, in answer to your question, I created an underpainting of random colors in acrylics, and while the paints were still wet, I applied various acrylic grounds (fibre paste, gesso, garnet gel, glass bead gel and self-levelling gel), also randomly. I then made marks with oil pastels and cotton buds on the wet paint and acrylic grounds layer, then left the canvas to dry. I painted the scene on top of the dry underpainting concoction. It's a method I learnt after reading Jean Pederson's book, Mixed Media Painting Workshop. I found it works for me, as I have the tendency to completely cover up my underpainting. The grounds ensure that I leave some of the underpainting showing through. Looking at the painting, I think I was a bit over-enthusiastic in my mark making in the foreground!

PS. And Alan, yes, there are actually crocs in the area, but there are raised boardwalks and small wooden huts/observation points built all along the trails so trekkers can hopefully avoid becoming croc-fodder! The wooden huts have the additional benefit of being great shelters for painters.

Thanks Seok for taking the time to answer my question, very helpful, I will have to lookup that book! 😉

Thanks very much, Gudrun!

The mudflats of Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, Singapore, function as a refuelling point, a pied-a-terre, for migratory wading birds to feed and roost. Painted en plein air. This will probably be my last posting for about 2 weeks as I'll be travelling. Please excuse me if I'm not commenting on your works. I'll catch up when I return. Thanks!
