Beautiful painting Sarah, it must have been quite an undertaking, everything about it is fascinating to examine - the softness of the fur, the change from cool to warm and the wonderful expressions.

Being most black and the oil paint still very wet, this has been a pretty difficult painting to photograph. I'll keep trying to get a representative shot of it but in the meantime, this is 'Mama Christmas and Guma', photographed by the very talented wildlife photographer, Ricardo Montero, who kindly gave me permission to paint it. Mama Christmas is the matriarch of this gorilla family, who have sadly lost various members due to the harsh reality of poaching in Uganda.
