Very tricky and you've painted this beautifully, such wonder luminescence in the skin (and those braces yeh!)

That's fantastic, Sarah!

I've seen - as I'm sure we all have - so many cutesy paintings of babies, toddlers, puppies, and kittens. One hesitates to criticize work done with love, if not necessarily huge talent: and there's really no point in doing it, is there? We all do our best, and our best isn't always up to the task. BUT - this is seriously good: this is youngster I can believe in. I completely understand your point about making 'em look about 50 years old, because we do tend to impose preconceived shapes, angles, and shading on them - but this is a great painting of a toddler: and they really are few and far between. Many of us can do babies; many can do youths; the stage in between is much more challenging to accomplish.

Awesome....

Superb portrait and beautifully painted. I agree with Roberts observations.

A very accomplished and beautifully painted portrait Sarah.

Brilliant, what more can one say!

Thank you so much for all of these lovely comments. To date, human portraits have not been my strong suit but this has definitely encouraged me to try more.

A beautifully painted portrait - amazing work!

This is unbelievably amazing and I greatly admire your skill in producing this beautiful painting Sarah.

Think I'm just about there with this gorgeous little chap. It's so difficult to get a good photograph of it as it's still wet and the surface is reflective but for now, this will have to do. It's tricky to avoid making a young toddler look older than they are! 'Master Cooke', oil on board, 10 x 12"
