We seem to have very similar methods to painting.. spending more time looking and taking photographs to use as reference... and l like to say i let the "painting paint itself!".i Really like your work.

Looking out to Mersea Island. In answer to some previous questions; I use a variety of papers. Bockingford, Cotman and The Langton, usually 140gm , sometimes 200gm. I paint in my studio rather than plein air, but do spend an awful lot of time 'looking' and photographing, probably more than actually painting ! I don't copy photographs religiously but use them as a reminder and reference. I am very new to watercolours and my history is acrylics and mixed media which are so different, and I am still experimenting. Each painting is a meditation and is very much about letting the water and paint do it's thang ! Serendipity. Quite often I find an A4 painting doesn't work as a whole, so I will crop to make a more interesting composition or remove the rubbish bits. LOL I have always used a limited palette and even in my large mixed media painting have stuck to less than five colours. Hope this helps lol.
