Curlews coming to the marsh

like your choice of subject. I love curlews and in the past have made quite a few detailed studies. I love their impossibly long beaks, and their skill in finding foods picking about with long legs and long beaks.

Thank you, angela angela and Carole. I really was not sure about this one, because of the sky mainly, which did not come up on screen quite the same as on my picture. Yes, they are fascinating birds, and I love the long legs and curving beaks. I have made a couple of detailed studies of the feathering, which is fantastically intricate.... Glad you like the sky, Carole; it is an evening picture, when they come in to feed. I have made a couple of detailed pencil studies from reference books. Have not seen any for years since moving away from the coast.

You have a lovely loose style here, and it leaves so much more for the viewer to do - to fill in the details for themselves. Much more satisfying to view than a fully detailed work. Well done Julian
