Evening At Saint Mullins.
Saint Mullins on the river Barrow, south east Ireland. The river is now only 8 miles from the sea and is tidal at this point. It rises and drops over 6ft on every tide so the painting opportunities are endless. In this watercolour I am trying to convey one of those special early evening autumn days that still have a touch of summer about them. Low sunlight falls across Mount Brandon yet the river is starting to cool down at this time of year. The trees are almost all wet into wet with the sky to allow for some depth and to try help the eye rest on the expanse of river. I like this painting very much, so much so I have tried to recreate it on two occasions but it just keeps falling a little short of this first take. But hey - thats painting !
