Sky over Vallay

This is lovely Roger, has a lovely sense of place to it

Well it’s a beauty Roger! I can’t fault it - glad you enjoyed my article, I’m doing a 4-page feature on Seago which will be early next year.

A great sky Roger and nice detail in the foreground

This is a wonderful painting Roger. How I wish I was there!

So beautifully open and the light is lovely.

Thank you all for your comments. Alan, I tried a wintry Seago-style oil a few months ago but the gate I invented wasn't the right scale for the rest of the landscape. That's what happens when you combine reference material. Perhaps I'll try again after seeing your article.

Great painting Roger - I’m with you on Seago!!

Beautiful, lovely composition and colours.

16" x 20" oil on board from a plein air pastel, North Uist, May 2022. This was inspired by Alan Bickley's article in the July issue of The Artist. I have long been an admirer of Edward Seago's work. At first, I was going to paint a Seago-style sky and a typical East Anglian landscape but I felt that it would seem like a copy. The pastel from the Vallay Strand had a lot of sky and I'd reacted with my pastel strokes to the conditions on a windy Sunday. So this is the result.
